Side panel and chatbot appearance

Understand the Chatbot and Panel display modes, how they differ on the page, and what they share.

Written by Romain Morvant

Chatbot and Panel are the two ways the assistant widget can appear on a page. This page explains how they differ. Both share the same widget logo and theme, set for the organization; to change those, see Customize the widget (logo, theme).

The two embed looks

When a teacher copies embed code, the share sheet offers:

  • Chatbot: a floating bubble in a corner.

  • Panel: a side panel on the right.

There is also an iframe option that embeds the assistant inside the page layout. That iframe is not the Chatbot bubble or the Panel.

One look for both modes

There is no separate Sidepanel or Chatbot card on Appearance. The widget logo and theme apply to both Chatbot and Panel, and you cannot set a different logo or theme for Panel than for Chatbot.

What Appearance does not change

Per-assistant widget settings (Normal or Expanded display, auto open) live on the assistant Advanced tab when Moodle is connected. Those controls do not change the organization logo or theme.

The organization profile logo is internal (the switcher). It does not replace the widget logo on Chatbot or Panel.
