Intro message and conversation starters

Edit the greeting learners see when a new chat opens and the suggestion chips under it, from the General tab of Settings.

Written by Romain Morvant

The first words in a new chat, and the chips under them, are edited in a small chat preview. There is no Chat tab: this block lives on General in the assistant's Settings.

The Intro & suggestions block: a chat preview with a greeting, an editable intro sentence, editable suggestion chips and an Add suggestion button.

Open the preview

You reach this block from the assistant page.

  1. Open the assistant, then Settings.

  2. On General, find Intro & suggestions.

You edit underlined text in a chat preview, not a long form.

The introduction

The greeting uses the learner's name. Select the underlined intro in the bubble to change it. If you leave it empty, Raison shows a placeholder until you write something.

A line before that intro, and a line after it, are wrapping text you cannot edit here.

If you are viewing a language that is not translated yet, select Translate to [language]. Learners still get an automatic translation the first time they open a chat in that language.

Suggestion chips

The chips under the intro are the questions learners can tap when a chat opens. They appear when a learner opens a chat, not after every answer.

  • Select the underlined text on a chip to rewrite it.

  • Select Add suggestion to add one. Five is the maximum.

  • Remove a chip with the control on that chip. You can remove one only when more than one exists.

For how learners page through the chips, see Question suggestions and follow-ups.

Save your changes

After you edit the intro or a chip, a bar appears. Select Save, or Reset to discard.
