On Questions, generation can return a failed objective, an empty draft, or no Generate more question button. This page helps you match the labels on that tab and fix the problem. How to run a normal generation is covered in a separate article.
Some objectives need attention
A banner can read Some objectives need attention. Failed groups show a Failed badge. Open the group to see an error badge and a hint:
Generation error: This was likely a temporary issue. Retry generation, or edit the objective and try again.
No matching material: Your sources do not contain enough content for this objective. Edit the objective, add more sources, then retry.
Not assessable: This objective cannot be turned into quiz questions as written. Rephrase it to describe something learners can demonstrate, then retry.
Out of scope: This objective is not covered by your current sources. Edit the objective or add relevant sources, then retry.
Above the hint, the card can also show a reason line:
For Generation error: Questions could not be generated for this objective. You can try again.
For No matching material: No relevant material was found in the collection for this objective.
Those two reason lines stay in English, including in a French workspace. Not assessable and Out of scope use a reason that can vary.
Retry, edit or add sources
The card offers these actions (as tooltips): Retry generation, Edit objective, Remove objective, and, for missing or out-of-scope material, Add sources.
Retry is shown only while the quiz is a Draft. If the quiz is already public, the hint reads Retry is available only while the quiz is a draft. On success you see Objective regenerated. On failure you see Failed to regenerate objective. Please try again.
Add sources opens Add sources to your collection, with Go to collection or Remove objective. After you add documents, the dialog reminds you: When you're done, return to this quiz and click Retry generation on this objective.
Generate more returned nothing
The button label is Generate more question.
If generation returns no drafts, a toast reads No questions could be generated. Try different settings.
If the request fails, it reads Failed to generate questions. Please try again.
You can change Objective, Number of questions, Difficulty, or Question types, then select Generate or Regenerate. Keep at least one type selected, or you see Select at least one question type.
The Generate more question button is missing
Generate more question is shown only when all of these are true:
At least one objective is generated.
A source collection is set.
The pool is not fully empty (zero questions and no Failed objective).
With no source collection, Add question can still show. A fully empty pool, or every objective Failed, hides both buttons.
The generate sheet lists generated objectives only. Retry a failed objective from its card, not from that sheet.
