Prompt visibility: private, assistant or public

Understand the Private, Assistant and Public visibility options for a prompt, which you can pick at creation, and how to change them.

Written by Romain Morvant

Visibility decides who can find a prompt in the library. This page explains the three options, which ones you can pick, and how to change them later.

The options are Private, Assistant, and Public. There is no option named organization: to share with your organization, use Assistant or Public.

What each option does

  • Private stays in My prompts, for you only. It does not appear on Discover or Organization.

  • Assistant stays off Discover. If you are in an organization, it can appear on Organization. You can attach it to assistants from the form.

  • Public can appear on Discover under Popular, and on Organization when it belongs to your current organization. Other teachers can save a copy or upvote it.

What you can pick when you create

When you create a prompt, visibility offers Assistant and Public only. The form starts on Assistant. Private is not in that list.

A prompt becomes Private when you remix one, or when you save a community prompt to My prompts.

Change it later

Open Prompts, then My prompts. Open a prompt you own, choose Edit, change visibility, then choose Save.

  • If the prompt is already Private, you can keep it Private or switch to Assistant or Public.

  • If it is already Assistant or Public, you cannot switch it back to Private from this form.

Remix hides visibility and always creates a private copy.

Where each prompt is listed

My prompts lists every prompt you own. Organization lists shared prompts, not private ones. Discover lists public community prompts.
