Create a prompt

Write a new prompt from My prompts: name, description, instruction text, category, visibility, and optional assistants.

Written by Romain Morvant

This page shows you how to write a new prompt from scratch in My prompts. To start from a prompt that already exists, use Remix instead.

Open the form

Open Prompts in the sidebar, then My prompts, then Create prompt. The button is only on My prompts, not on Discover or Organization.

Fill it in

Give the prompt a name, a short description, and the instruction text. These three fields cannot be empty.

Pick a category: Understand, Practice, Revise, or Create. A new form starts on Understand.

Choose who can see it: Assistant or Public. Private is not offered when you create a prompt.

If you choose Assistant

When visibility is Assistant, pick at least one assistant before you create. That offers the prompt as a default on those assistants. When visibility is Public, the assistant picker is hidden.

Managing the chips learners see in chat happens on the assistant itself: see Attach default prompts.

Create the prompt

Choose Create. The prompt appears in My prompts, in its category row. If you own it, you can open it later to edit or delete it.
