Import Canvas course content

What Raison reads from a connected Canvas instance, how instructors import a course, and what to check if nothing appears.

Written by Romain Morvant

Once the Canvas OAuth application is saved for the organisation, instructors import content with their own Canvas account. They only see the courses, modules, pages, and files that Canvas already lets them access.

What Raison reads

Raison reads the Canvas course structure the authorising user can see:

  • Courses

  • Modules and module items

  • Pages

  • Files, in their Canvas folder hierarchy when the folders scope is granted

  • Enrolled users

You no longer need to upload those documents manually. They become available as source material for assistants.

Import from Quick create

  1. Open the dashboard.

  2. Select Quick create → Canvas.

  3. Sign in to Canvas and approve access if this is your first import.

  4. Choose the course (and the modules or items you need).

  5. Generate the assistant.

You can also use Connect and test course access under Organization → Integrations → Canvas → Configure → OAuth API Key to confirm that courses appear before instructors start importing.

Each instructor authorises Canvas with their own account the first time they import, so the list always respects their Canvas scope.

If no courses appear

The OAuth key may be disabled, the callback URL may not match, or the account may have no courses in scope. See Canvas troubleshooting.
