Create an assistant from a Moodle, Canvas or Blackboard course

Create an assistant from a connected Moodle, Canvas or Blackboard course: pick the course, choose resources, then generate.

Written by Romain Morvant

If your organization connected Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard, you can create an assistant from a course you already teach. You pick the course, choose resources, then generate.

When these options appear

You see From Moodle, From Canvas, or From Blackboard only if that LMS is connected for your organization. The site name can appear in the label, for example From Moodle (your site).

  • From Moodle when the Moodle plugin is connected.

  • From Canvas when the Canvas API (OAuth) connection is in place. Canvas LTI 1.3 is a different setup and does not by itself show this option.

  • From Blackboard when the Blackboard API is connected.

If only one of those LMS options is available, the course list is shown on the first screen. If none appear, an administrator needs to finish setup first:

Create the assistant

Open Quick create in the sidebar, then select From Moodle, From Canvas, or From Blackboard. If only one LMS is connected, pick a course from the list on the first screen.

  1. Search your courses and select one. Selecting a course opens the next step. There is no Continue or Next button on the course list.

  2. Choose which resources to include. If the course hides resources from students, you can show them. Turning that on does not select them.

  3. You can keep the assistant in sync with the course under Course updates, and you can import the people enrolled in the course under Learners.

  4. Select Generate assistant. You need at least one importable resource.

Raison names the assistant New assistant and creates a collection from the selected course resources.

To import course content without creating an assistant, or to attach an existing assistant to a course, see the articles under Related.
