Moodle integration overview

The two parts of the Moodle integration — the local plugin and the LTI 1.3 tool — what each one does, and who sets them up.

Written by Romain Morvant

The Raison Moodle integration has two complementary parts. They are not two ways to do the same thing.

The local plugin (local_corolair) connects the Moodle site to Raison. It handles site registration, a controlled Moodle Web Service, course and content sync, enrolments, assistant entry points, and placing Raison assessments as Moodle activities.

The LTI 1.3 tool launches the learner from a Moodle activity into the right Raison assistant or assessment. The launch is signed. It carries the platform, deployment, course, resource, role, and user. The learner does not search for the content or sign in to Raison separately.

The plugin covers work that sits outside a resource-link launch. LTI is the trusted launch boundary.

The local plugin is listed on the Moodle Plugins Directory. The LTI 1.3 tool is the component submitted for Moodle Certified Integration. LTI alone delivers the secure launch and the in-place experience. Automatic placement of assessments and the assistant embedded on course pages also need the plugin.

Who does what

Moodle administrator. Installs the plugin, reviews the disclosure, authorizes the Web Service, completes LTI registration, and controls educator roles.

Educator or instructional designer. Creates assistants and assessments in Raison, publishes an assessment into a Moodle course section, and can rename or remove that placement.

Learner. Stays in the Moodle course. Opening a Raison activity starts the LTI launch and opens the attached assistant or assessment.
