How Raison reads images inside your documents

Learn how Raison turns uploaded images and figures inside PDFs or Office documents into text an assistant can use.

Written by Romain Morvant

Raison can use images as resources, and it can also pick up figures that sit inside a PDF or an Office document. How much of the picture becomes usable text depends on the file.

A picture you upload

JPEG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF, BMP, HEIC, and HEIF files upload like any other file. Raison describes the image so an assistant can talk about it. Keep the file within the image size limit for your plan.

Pictures inside a PDF or a document

When a PDF or document contains figures, Raison still extracts the text around them. The image itself may be skipped, described from its caption, or described in a second pass. You may see a notice that some visual content was not fully interpreted.

If Raison offers a second pass on a flagged file, that pass is meant for scans and image-heavy pages. You can also continue without it.

Get better results

Screenshots of slides work better as a PDF or PPTX than as many tiny crops. A file with almost no text can produce weaker results.
