Video transcription

Learn how Raison gets a transcript from uploaded video and audio files, Vimeo, Kaltura, Nudgis and YouTube videos.

Written by Romain Morvant

Raison does not play the video for learners inside the assistant. It reads a transcript, then answers from that text. This page explains where that transcript comes from for each kind of video.

A video or audio file you upload

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI, WMV, and the other video types in Supported file formats and size limits, plus audio such as MP3, M4A, WAV, and FLAC, are transcribed automatically. If transcription fails, the resource is flagged and you can retry or replace the file.

You can also upload an .srt or .vtt file if you already have captions.

Vimeo, Kaltura, and Nudgis

When you import a video from Vimeo, Kaltura or Nudgis, Raison prefers the transcript already stored on that host. If none is available, the resource is flagged. If a Nudgis video cannot be added, try again or pick another one. Connecting the host is an organization admin step.

YouTube

YouTube is not a file upload. Paste the link with Add a web page. Raison uses captions when they exist. A private or blocked video cannot be read.
