A period is a block of dates on an assistant's Timeline tab. For each period you choose which resources, modes and prompts the assistant uses, so you can release course content over time instead of all at once. This page explains how periods work; for the steps, see Create, edit and delete a period.
Where to find the Timeline
Open the assistant, then the Timeline tab. The page title is Timeline configuration, with the helper text Set how your teaching assistant behaves and which resources it uses across different time periods. If there are no periods yet, you see No periods added yet and an Add new period button.
What a period controls
Dates: a start date and an end date. Periods can't overlap, and a new period can't start today or in the past. A period that covers today is marked Active.
Resources: the assistant only uses the resources selected for the period. At least one is required.
Modes: which modes learners can use during the period, such as Support, Effort or custom modes. At least one is required.
Prompts: which built-in shortcuts (Quiz, Summary, Study plan, Diagram) and custom prompts are available.
Rolling resources
Rolling resources is a switch in the period's resource selection:
Off: Each period uses only the resources you select below.
On: Resources from the previous period are added to the selected ones.
Turn it on when earlier material should stay available as the course moves forward.
When to use periods
Release content part by part: give each period the resources for that part of the course.
Change the available modes on a set date: see Switch modes automatically on a given date.
Pause the assistant between two blocks by leaving uncovered days between periods: see Take an assistant offline temporarily.
