Off-topic answers usually mean the assistant is drawing on the wrong sources, the wrong type, or extra knowledge you left on. Work through these in order.
Check the type
On Settings → General → Modes, there is no Course assistant card. Admin assistant is for deadlines, LMS navigation, and FAQs. If Admin assistant is the only active type, answers will not stay on your course materials. Turn Admin off and use Support, Effort, or a custom mode.
Check the knowledge base
Open Knowledge base and confirm the collections are the ones for this course. Attach the right collection, or unlink one that does not belong.
General knowledge and web search
On Settings → Learner experience, General knowledge lets the assistant fall back outside your resources. Web search lets learners search the web. Turn them off if you need answers only from your materials.
Timeline resources
If you use Timeline, the current period limits which resources the assistant may use. A period with the wrong files will answer from those files only.
Test before you publish a fix
Use Preview in the header (product copy also says Learner preview) to try the same question.
