Course assistant or admin assistant: which one to pick

Decide whether your assistant should help learners study the course or answer practical questions, and switch between the two setups.

Written by Romain Morvant

A new assistant is set up to help learners study the course. Switch it to an admin assistant when you want help with operations instead. This page explains where to choose and what changes.

There is no Course assistant card. Course is the default: Admin assistant off, with Support and Effort on.

Where to choose

Open the assistant, then Settings. On General, find Modes.

You see Admin assistant, Support, Effort, and Add custom mode.

When to keep the course setup

Keep Support and Effort (and any custom modes) when the assistant should help learners with the course itself, from the materials you upload. On a new assistant, Support and Effort are already on.

When to pick Admin assistant

Choose Admin assistant when it should help with deadlines, finding the way in the LMS, and FAQs, from the resources you upload.

Admin is the only active mode when it is on. The other modes turn off, and so do learner shortcuts for on-demand quizzes, summaries, study plans, and diagrams.

How to go back

Turn Admin off, or turn Support or Effort back on. Turning Admin off restores Support and Effort.
