Support mode and Effort mode: when to use each

Learn the difference between Support and Effort modes and choose how your assistant helps learners: right away, or after they try first.

Written by Romain Morvant

Support and Effort decide how the assistant talks to learners: help right away, or try first. You set this on Settings, tab General, under Modes.

You see cards for Support, Effort, Admin assistant, and Add custom mode. There is no Course assistant card. Course is simply the type when Admin is off.

Support

Use Support when learners should get explanations and tools without having to attempt an answer first. Someone who is stuck, or looking something up, can ask and get an answer.

Effort

Use Effort when you want learners to try first. Help comes after they attempt an answer or explain their reasoning.

Let learners choose

By default both Support and Effort are on, so learners can switch. You need at least one active mode. The remove control is disabled on the last mode still on.

When Admin is on

If Admin assistant is on, Support and Effort turn off. Admin is the only active mode. See Assistant name, type and description.
