Switch modes automatically on a given date

Choose the modes each Timeline period uses, so learners get Support, Effort or a custom mode automatically when the period starts.

Written by Romain Morvant

This page explains how to change an assistant's modes on a set date. There is no separate control that says "switch modes on this date": you choose modes on each Timeline period, and when that period starts, those modes are the ones learners can use.

Choose modes for a period

  1. Open the assistant, then Timeline.

  2. Create or edit a period.

  3. On the Settings step, use Modes.

The helper text is Choose which modes are active during this period. You can enable modes here even if they are off today. The timeline will activate them when the period starts.

Built-in choices are Support and Effort. Custom modes you already created also appear. You must leave at least one mode on for the period.

Admin assistant

If Admin assistant is the only active type, this step has no modes to pick. The message is No modes are enabled for this assistant. Enable modes in assistant settings first.

You can't finish a period until at least one of Support, Effort or a custom mode is available. Turn Admin assistant off and enable Support, Effort or a custom mode in Settings, then come back to Timeline.
