Quiz or case study: which to choose

Compare the two exam formats in Raison, quiz and case study, and see why only a quiz can be created today.

Written by Romain Morvant

When you start an exam in Raison, you first pick a format. This page explains the difference between a quiz and a case study, and which one you can use today.

Open Exams

  1. In the sidebar, open Exams. The item is shown only if your organization can use exams. The list is described as Assess your learner through quizzes or case studies.

  2. Select Create exam. If the list is empty, use the same button on the No exams yet screen.

The first screen is titled What would you like to create? Two rows are listed: Quiz and Case study. Pick a format to continue. You do not need an extra confirmation on this step.

Quiz

Choose Quiz when you want auto-graded questions. After you pick a source, Raison drafts learning objectives, then writes questions from that material. You review, adjust, and share later. Learners take the quiz on their own.

Case study

The Case study row uses the description Assess learners through a guided conversation. It shows a Coming soon badge and stays disabled. You cannot start a case study from this screen yet. See What a case study is for.

Which to choose

Use the format that matches how you want to assess, with one constraint today: only a quiz can be created.

  • Choose a quiz for scored questions drawn from a course, a collection, or sources you add now.

  • A case study will suit assessment through a conversation. Until Coming soon is gone, create a quiz instead.

A different quiz path

This is the teacher Exams module. It is not the on-demand quiz a learner can ask for in an assistant chat. That shortcut is turned on in assistant settings, then used in the conversation. See the on-demand quiz articles in the Related list below.

Next steps

When you stay in Exams, next you generate a quiz from a course or from resources, or create a quiz from scratch. After the quiz exists, you can still edit questions and settings, then share it with learners.
