Create a quiz from scratch

Build an exam quiz from new sources such as files, web links or text when you have no collection or LMS course to reuse.

Written by Romain Morvant

Start from scratch when you do not already have a collection or an LMS course to reuse. This page shows you how to add sources for a new quiz. You still need at least one source: Raison cannot create a quiz from an empty set of materials.

Open Start from scratch

Open Exams and start a new quiz. Then choose Start from scratch. It sits below the collection option, after any LMS courses.

Add at least one source

There is no course preview on this path. Drop files (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, images, audio, video, SCORM, H5P) or add a web link to get the first source in.

After that, add more from your computer, a web page, plain text, or the Raison library. Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, Vimeo, or Nudgis appear here only if they are connected.

You can continue when at least one source is ready and nothing is still uploading. Raison starts processing, then opens learning objectives.

If you leave before the quiz is created, Raison discards the working collection it made for this attempt.

After the sources are in

Review the drafted objectives in Set learning objectives, then continue. Next you set how questions are generated and how the quiz is delivered, then create the quiz.

If you already have a ready collection, or the material still lives only in Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard, generate the quiz from that collection or course instead of starting from scratch.
