An assistant in Raison is an AI chat grounded in the collections you attach. It can teach from those materials and, when you allow it, run a few study tools. It cannot replace a teacher, and it cannot guarantee that every sentence is correct.
What it can do
From the chat, it answers questions from the resources on its knowledge base, and shows Sources when resource sharing is on. It can work in Support (explanations and tools) or Effort (the learner tries first; help comes after). If both are on, a mode control appears on a new conversation. After the first message, that chat keeps its mode. Custom modes you add behave like Support for tools, with your own instructions.
When you turn the matching default prompts on, the chat can offer Quiz, Summary, Study plan, and Diagram. There is no mindmap chip. Diagram builds diagrams and flowcharts.
Learners can send a message to you with Ask my teacher, when that setting is on (it is on by default). Optional general knowledge and web search can widen a reply, only if you and the organization turned them on. Course materials stay first. Optional Memory can keep useful details across chats in this course, and the assistant can read a notebook the learner has shared. Notes are not course material.
An admin assistant is a different type. It helps with deadlines, LMS navigation, and FAQs. It does not stay on course study.
What it cannot do
If general knowledge is off and the knowledge base has nothing, it should say it does not have the material, rather than invent a reliable answer. It cannot search the web unless web search is allowed and the learner turns it on for that message. It cannot change mode in the middle of a conversation: start a new chat to pick another mode.
It cannot see a notebook the learner has not shared, or use a resource that is still processing, waiting, to review, or in error. It cannot replace your judgement, mark an official exam the way a human would, or stay correct on every reply. On-demand Quiz in chat is practice. Teacher-built exams live under Exams, which is a separate product area.
Your organization can show a disclaimer under the chat field. That is a notice you write, not a promise that answers are always right.
