Grant an extra attempt, restrict access

Give one learner another quiz attempt, or ban and unban a learner, from the Learners tab.

Written by Romain Morvant

On Learners you can grant one extra attempt to a single person, or ban them so they cannot open the quiz. This is different from the Settings switch that lets everyone retry.

Grant an extra attempt

Open Exams, open the quiz, then go to Learners. On that learner's row, allow another attempt.

The Allow another attempt dialog with Cancel and Allow attempt buttons

This action appears only when Allow multiple attempts is off and that learner has already used their allowed attempts. If the Settings switch is on, learners retry themselves and this row action is hidden.

Ban or unban a learner

To block one person without unpublishing the quiz, use Ban learner. Their status becomes Banned. They can no longer open the quiz. If they still have the share link, they see that access is restricted.

Use Unban learner to restore access. Status returns to Active. Email invite on that row stays disabled while they are banned.

Stop everyone from opening the quiz

To stop everyone from opening the quiz, turn off Make quiz public in Share. There is no date window, password, or separate disable-link control.

This page is for quizzes in Exams, not the on-demand quiz in assistant chat.
