When a learner's quiz attempt ends before you expect, the End reason on that attempt in Learners tells you why. This page is for teachers. What the learner saw is covered in a separate learner article.
Open the attempt
Open the quiz, then the Learners tab.
On a row with at least one attempt, select the eye icon (View attempts).
The sheet lists each attempt with its number, date, score and end reason. Select an attempt to open Attempt details.
If the sheet is empty, it shows No attempts yet. The eye action is disabled when the row has 0 attempts.
Match the end reason
The End reason field uses these labels:
Completed: the learner submitted with End quiz or End assessment.
Ended for leaving tab: End attempt on tab change was on. Leaving the quiz tab and coming back submitted what they had.
Time expired: a timer was on, and Time remaining reached zero.
Left quiz: they closed the window or left the page while the attempt was running.
In progress: the attempt has no recorded end yet, or its end reason is not recognized. Both cases use this same label. Completed and Duration then show Incomplete. Latest score can be a dash.
Block copy & paste and Record session never end the attempt. Ban learner sets a Status of Banned; it is not an end reason. A banned learner who opens the share link sees Access restricted.
What you can do
Raison does not reopen a finished attempt. If Allow multiple attempts is off and the learner already used theirs, grant one more from their row.
The timer and the tab-change rule are set in the quiz Settings.
