Anti-cheat: copy-paste, tab switching, session recording

Turn on the three anti-cheat switches for a quiz in Exams: block copy and paste, end the attempt on tab change, and record the session.

Written by Romain Morvant

Keep a quiz fair with three optional switches: block copy and paste, end the attempt if the learner leaves the tab, and record the session. There is no webcam, pairing code, or lockdown browser.

Open the switches

Open Exams, open the quiz, then go to Settings. The three switches sit under Anti-cheat.

The Anti-cheat section of quiz Settings with the Block copy & paste, End attempt on tab change and Record session switches

While you create the quiz, the same three switches sit under Integrity on Quiz delivery. New quizzes start with copy-paste blocking and tab detection on, and session recording off.

Block copy and paste

Turn on Block copy & paste so learners cannot cut, copy, or paste during the attempt. That does not submit the attempt.

This switch is for quizzes in Exams. Blocking copy and paste inside an assistant chat is a different setting: Block copy and paste.

End the attempt on tab change

Turn on End attempt on tab change so leaving the quiz tab and coming back submits what the learner has. If it is off, changing tabs does not end the attempt. A timer still runs if you set one.

Record the session

Turn on Record session so Raison records the learner session during the attempt. You can replay it later. Recording does not end the attempt. Teacher Preview does not start a recording.

On the same Settings tab you can also set the timer, assessment mode, and multiple attempts.
